FOWLER, Ind. - In Benton County, many people enjoy watching a movie close to home. The historic Fowler Theater has it all with affordable prices, roomy seating, and an old fashioned charm.

Amidst the red brick buildings of 5th street the sky blue Fowler Theater really stands out, but it wasn't always that way.

"When we got to this area of town we said my goodness...something needs to be done about the theater it's in such bad shape," said Karen Klemme of the Prairie Preservation Guild.

Since 2001 the Prairie Preservation Guild has been working to restore the 69 year old theater inside and out.

"Along with the new roof, all new windows in the projection room that are historically correct," said Klemme.

"It's very impressive what they are doing. I'm glad they were able to keep it from closing or being destroyed," said visitor Kent Bell.

Now around four hundred volunteers are responsible for keeping the popcorn popping and the film rolling.

"I just asked who do I need to talk to about volunteering. Keeping things going in a small community is what it's all about," said volunteer Mika Dorsey.

With a list of snacks to choose from...

"The candy is good and so is the pop," said Tiffany Jessie.

And comfortable seating...

"They're so roomy and spaced apart that you don't have to pick up your feet to walk in front," said Delmiro Zarate.

The historic Fowler Theater is a great place to catch a flick.

"I like the project so well that had I done this as a young person maybe I would have chosen this as an occupation," said Klemme.
