FOUNTAIN COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A fire in southwest Fountain County totally destroyed a mobile home, and investigators found what is thought to be human remains inside, according to the Fountain County Coroner's Office.
The coroner's office said a neighbor reported flames coming from the home at 5:18 a.m. Thursday morning.
The coroner's office said that when firefighters arrived, they found the mobile home fully engulfed in flames and nearly incinerated.
After the flames were extinguished firefighters found what were thought to be human remains inside. These were removed and transported to Lafayette for autopsy. This examination will take place late on Thursday and investigators hope to have more information about the identity of the remains by Friday.
The address of the mobile home and the identity of the possible victim are not being released at this time, and no information has been released regarding the cause of the fire.
The investigation is still ongoing and is being handled by the Department of Homeland Security and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
