DELPHI, Ind. - In Delphi what began as a simple meeting of neighbors has become a town festival.

"There's people that come from all over the state and even out of state," said Delphi resident Jack Hatke.

For 154 years The Old Settlers Event in Delphi has been all about bringing the community together.

"It all began when it was neighbors getting together and I think it's still a time when people in the community get together," said Delphi resident Linda Fife.

There was plenty to do with rides, games, and music surrounding the courthouse. Those interested in History weren't far from a local expert.

Carroll County resident Charles Gish has been collecting prehistoric artifacts all of his life. The number of pieces in his collection is only surpassed by the number of questions people ask him.

"It's amazing. Elderly people, middle aged people, and even kids. Kids will come up here and look at it and say "what do you use this for?" said Gish.

Fife spent the day demonstrating how to spin yarn. She said while the process is dated it's important for people to see how it was done.

"Not many people spin. Most people go to shops and buy their clothing. So this is a lost art and we need to remind everybody where it all came from," said Fife.

All diversions aside, Jack Hatke of Delphi says the event is simply about reconnecting with friends and family.

"It's nice to meet people that you haven't seen for a long time. They come back. I just met a kid from my class that I hadn't seen for years, and other people that you haven't seen for years they come up here. That's kind of what it's about," said Hatke.
