CHERRY HILL, NJ (WLFI) - Subaru had record sales in October, with sales of Lafayette-made vehicles helping to lead the way.

Company-wide, 18,169 Subarus were sold in October 2009, a 41% increase from October 2008.

Of the cars made at the SIA plant in Lafayette, two posted gains. Sales of Legacies sky-rocketed from a year ago. Legacy sales were up 112% from the year before, to 3,254 units sold.

6,451 Outbacks were sold in October, 2009. which is an increase of 175% from October of last year.

The company said both of those vehicles broke all previous sales records.

Of the vehicles made in Lafayette, only the Tribeca saw sales decline. Just 246 of them sold in October of this year.

Subaru Senior Vice President Tim Colbeck said sales of the Legacy and Outback continue to grow.

"The launch of our Legacy and Outback products is gaining momentum and helping to fuel record sales, while the record breaking success of Forester continues," Colbeck said.
