SHADELAND, Ind. (WLFI) - A bridge in Shadeland is getting a new look.
The bridge on County Road 300 South off of State Road 25 in Tippecanoe County will be widened and also made less steep. Commissioners opened bids today for the project, which is expected to cost more than $800,000.
Highway Director Opal Kuhl said part of the work will also include some road construction.
"It needs to be widened. Two cars can pass fine, but it's
difficult when you have wider loads like farm equipment. It
also doesn't have very good sight distance. It's a steep
bridge so it's hard to see over it. We are also changing
where it ties in to State Road 25. There's a little bit of a curve
in the road. We are smoothing out that curve," said Kuhl.
Kuhl said construction should begin in the next month and
take around 3 to 4 months to be completed. The lowest bid on
the project came from H.I.S. Construction, of Indianapolis. The bid
was for $827,888.84. Commissioners will award a bid at their next
meeting in August.
