The public found out details about road closings for construction of the Hoosier Heartland Corridor. Right now the Hoosier Heartland Corridor is a yellow line on a map. Soon it will go from concept to concrete. Many people from Tippecanoe County gathered at the Buck Creek Community Center to learn about the plans.

"Lots of dust," said Mary Killian who lives near the construction. "Lots of trucks. Seems like they are making a lot of progress."

Construction for new bridges over Sugar Creek, Bridge Creek, No Name Creek and County Road 900 North along with building of a half mile of State Road 25 starts in August. So does a bridge at County Road 900 East over State Road 25. County Roads 900 East, 600 North, and 900 North close beginning August 10th. Those who live near the construction site are concerned about rerouting traffic.

"Worry about extra traffic," said Donna Payne who also lives near the construction.

"The people that go from Flora to Lafayette will need to find a longer way to get around," said Killlan

But many say having the 31 mile four lane divided highway from Lafayette to Logansport will be worth the inconvenience and the wait.

"I just think it's something we need," said Killan.

"This new road is something we do need," said Payne.

The bridges will be built by the end of October. The Tippecanoe County section of the Hoosier Heartland will be finished in 2012 and the entire highway will open in 2013. These projects will be built by Crider & Crider for almost 33-million dollars.
