Logansport, IN (WLFI) - An old house containing eight apartments burned Friday morning in Logansport. Everyone who lived there got out safely. Assistant fire chief Dave Huff says people were coming out of the house as the fire trucks pulled in. He says the fire was initially coming out the front part of the roof, but he thinks the back side of the building had been smouldering for a while, and it "all of a sudden just took off."

The residents say they were alerted by Steven Wilson, who lives nearby  and was walking down the street. "I was just walking' by and seen some smoke, and went in there and I seen a bunch of smoke, so I just started banging on everybody's doors," Wilson told us.

"If it wasn't for Steve Wilson, coming on up street and seen the fire coming up out of the thing, we'd never got out because none of us knew the building was on fire," said resident Patrick Malone. Another resident, Victor Burton, said seven apartments have nothing left.

The fire started in a storage room between two upstairs apartments, said Malone. Logansport firemen are still investigating to determine the cause. The Red Cross is providing lodging and other aid.
