Local foundation makes big donation to YMCA

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Lafayette Family YMCA received a large sum of money to help send kids to camp, in the form of a $5,000 check from the Grainger Foundation.

The Grainger Foundation is part of Grainger Industrial Supply. The money will be used by the YMCA to send 50 kids to a summer day camp.

The Branch Manager for Grainger Industrial Supply says they wanted to give back when some of their employees saw the impact the YMCA had on their own kids.

“Through their hard work and efforts, they helped identify this opportunity,” Branch Manager Joshua Garey said. “We came in and talked with Sarah Hudson and had a great conversation about how we could help the kids in the Lafayette area.”

“A couple of the leaders have their children in some of the programs here,” Lafayette YMCA CEO Paul Cramer said. “So, they saw firsthand the benefits. That's what we do, we try and help every child learn, grow and thrive.”

Around 900 kids will attend the day camp this summer.
