Dayton, Ind., church rings new bell

DAYTON, Ind. (WLFI) - A church in Dayton is ringing in some new equipment.

The Dayton United Methodist Church's bell tower had been out of commission for almost ten years before being repaired this week.

A former member of the church who recently passed away left a donation to the church. The church used part of those funds to pay for the repair of the tower.

"They didn't know that it was happening," minister of outreach, discipleship and assimilation Eric Schneider said.

"So, this past Sunday, they walked out and heard the bells and were like, 'Oh, wow,' Schneider said.  "Some people said, 'Where's that coming from?'  Until they realized it was our church that was playing the bells."

Schneider said they had received a call of a complaint about the volume, which the church immediately addressed.
