LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -  High school sports teams throughout the state have officially begun practice for the fall season.

The biggest concern for coaches and players is, of course, the heat.  Defending 1-A champion Central Catholic held a mid-day session when it was in the lower 90s.

Head Coach Kevin O'Shea said that it is all about teaching coaches and athletes how to take care themselves and teammates when tackling the hot temperatures.

"Sometimes, as far as a kid goes, he might tend to get a little disoriented.  You can see a flushed look.  Gets a little clammy, maybe.  That's one of the reasons we have all of coaches trained on what to look for.  Especially when it's really hot," said O'Shea.

O'Shea also said when it gets too hot, they will go ahead and take off the pads and take extra water breaks.
