LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A pair of local agencies are working to get people registered to vote.

The League of Women Voters was on Ivy Tech's campus today getting students registered for the upcoming election.

"We have a lot of people stopping by.  They say 'oh yes, by the way I do need to register.'  So we know that we're folding into their lives rather than it being an extra step for them to take care of," said Joanne Evers, president of the League of Women Voters of Greater Lafayette.

Meanwhile, the Area IV Agency in Lafayette is working to team seniors and disabled citizens with volunteers in order to help them gain proper photo identification in order to vote.

"This combines both sides of what we do to help people exercise their civic right and duty.  We're very excited about this possibility and want everyone who wants to vote to be able to vote," said Sharon Wood, Executive Director of the Area IV Agency.

Both groups look forward to helping people prepare for November's general election.

Anyone looking to volunteer or in need of assistance should call Area IV at (765) 447-7683 and ask for the Information and Referral department.

Deadline for registering for the November election is October 9.
