Lincoln exhibit comes to Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A traveling exhibit examining our country's 16th president has arrived at Purdue University.

"Lincoln - The Constitution and the Civil War" can now be seen in Hicks Undergraduate Library.

The exhibit features both original materials and reproductions, including a draft of Lincoln's first inaugural speech, the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment, which outlawed slavery.

Library clerk Ann O'Donnell said the display allows visitors the chance to learn more about a turning point in American history.

"This really highlights the situation that was going on at the time and it brings to the forefront the struggles that he went through and that were really at the core of the Civil War," said O'Donnell.

The exhibit can be seen now through April 5.

The library will also be hosting three lectures about President Lincoln throughout the month of March. The lectures are at Hicks Library Room G980D, begin at 7 p.m. and are open to the public.

• March 18 - "Lincoln: Martial Law and Public Dissent"
• March 26 - "Lincoln: Building the Nation-State in the Face of a Divisive South"
