Latest 720 Northwestern Avenue proposal includes grocery

New proposal would include "Fresh City Market"

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - West Lafayette residents could have a new grocery store within easy walking distance.

That's the latest proposal for the property at 720 Northwestern Avenue, across the street from Mackey Arena.

In February, the Area Plan Commission refused to give their approval for a proposal formerly known as BoilerCribs and then Landmark.

But the latest set of plans which will go before the APC next Wednesday will have staff approval.  It is a five-story building, with 230 apartment units and up to 490 bedrooms of student housing, with two stories of underground parking with a total of 405 spaces, an increase of 110 from the previous proposal.

Although some spaces are double and triple, APC Asst. Director Ryan O'Gara said plans now call for management to be available 24-hours a day so in case of an emergency, any person will be able to get to their car at all hours.

The ground floor will have 41,000 square feet of space that will include a Fresh City Market.

"Having a full-service grocery that is literally at the doorstep of residents is a tremendous convenience, not only to them, but for the residents within easy walking distance of this site," O'Gara said.

June 20's APC meeting will be a full one.

The APC will also consider a State Street Corner project at the corner of State and Northwestern, the Crosswalk Commons project on Hilltop Drive on Purdue's campus, and the Meridian Crossing project located at Northwestern and Meridian.

Staff positions for each will be available online on Thursday.
