LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - City governments spent much of the day Monday preparing for an anticipated six to eight inches of snow.
Lafayette street commissioner Dan Crowell said he sent his staff an email over the weekend to tell them to get ready.
"We're getting our trucks cleaned out and ready to go, so we'll have everything in full force," he said.
The street department prepared the city's roads Monday by wetting them with a salt and brine mixture, intended to melt some of the snow when it hits.
"We're just trying to stay on top of it," Crowell said. "It's just a one-two punch coming right at us. We'll be ready."
The department has already cleared most of the roads from last week's snow, he added, so he feels prepared to tackle the coming storm.
Meanwhile, local residents are stocking up on supplies. At the Lowe's store on Creasy Lane, store manager Richard Hamrlik said snow removal supplies have been selling rapidly.
"It's like more of an immediacy," he said. "People will wait until the last minute sometimes."
Hamrlik said they've seen a spike in sales for salt, shovels, snow throwers and windshield wiper fluid.
The Indiana Department of Transportation will be busy this week, as well. INDOT plans to send up to 159 trucks to the Crawfordsville District, where drivers will alternate 12-hour shifts.
The department wants to remind Indiana drivers to limit speed, and avoid traveling during the storm, if you can.
