LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A 22 year veteran of the Lafayette Fire Department now holds a higher position.
At a ceremony at Lafayette's City Hall, Joseph Barker was officially promoted to the rank of Captain. Barker is a Lafayette native and has held many ranks during his two a decades of service, including serving as Captain previously for 8 years.
Mayor Tony Roswarski said a few kind words while Fire Chief Richard Doyle presented Barker with a new badge. Doyle says Barker has what it takes to be a leader.
"He's very calm under pressure. That's a very good thing considering what we do on a daily basis. He sets a very good tone. He leads by example. That's also a very important thing," said Doyle.
"I'm staying on the same shift. 'C' Shift. So I know all the guys that are down there. Great group of guys and good lieutenants down there. Just looking forward to getting down there and getting back to work," said Barker.
Barker is now heading up station No. 2 located at Union and Erie streets.
