Lafayette crews respond to gas leak

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Police and fire crews responded to a gas leak Thursday afternoon in Lafayette.

Police urged people to avoid the area of S. 30th and Summer streets, but as of just before 4 p.m., the area was back open.

Police on the scene tell News 18 a contractor struck a gas line. Police received a report of a strong gas smell just before 3 p.m. and received a call from QC Communications, Inc., shortly after, warning them of the accident.

Police and fire crews closed and evacuated the area for nearly one hour, but the incident was not believed to be a serious danger.
