LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette crews were at a local manufacturer working on a fire mid-day Friday.

When asked about a report of a fire Friday morning at the Lafayette Caterpillar facility (3701 Indiana State Road 26), Lafayette dispatchers originally only said the police department was on scene, conducting some kind of investigation.

UPDATE: As of 11 a.m. Friday, dispatchers confirmed firefighters were working on a fire at the Caterpillar facility.

According to Lafayette Police Department officers, it was a small fire in the Engine Test Cell. Crews got the fire under control quickly and were able to put it out.

Crews spent much of Friday clearing out the smoke. No injuries were reported.
