LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Lafayette Police Department received a call of an armed bank robbery just before 9 Thursday morning.
It happened at Huntington Bank on Teal Road in Lafayette. Police say a white male entered the bank and pulled out a gun.
"The suspect displayed a small gray or silver handgun, told the teller to give him the money and then left the bank on foot headed southbound," Lafayette Police Lieutenant Brad Hayworth said.
Hayworth said a K-9 unit was called in to track the man shortly after police were notified of the robbery.
"We did not have a K-9 working at the time but we called one in and asked them to do a track for us," Hayworth said. "They tracked down the east side of the bank and then south in the parking lot. At some point the dog lost the track of the suspect."
Hayworth said police are still searching for the man.
He said this robbery may be connected to previous bank robberies in Lafayette.
"We do believe it is related to the bank robbery at Chase Bank on Teal Road and also Lafayette Savings Bank on Twyckenham Boulevard," Hayworth said.
The Chase Bank robbery happened Sept. 14.
Lafayette Savings Bank was robbed at gunpoint Friday, Oct. 12.
The person police are looking for is described as a white male between 30 and 40 years old.
He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and sunglasses.
You are asked to call Lafayette Police Department at 765-807-1200 or the We Tip Hotline at 1-800-782-7463 if you have any information.
