LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A Lafayette animal clinic now offers discounted spay and neuter operations to people who financially qualify.
It's all part of the Spay-Neuter Assistance Program. Wildcat Valley Animal Clinic in Lafayette started participating in the program.
This means people who are on some kind of public assistance program can get their pets spayed or neutered for $20.
Veterinarian Heather Baker said it can be any kind of assistance program like Medicaid or food stamps.
Baker said this is the clinic's way of helping with the pet overpopulation in our community. She said animals sometimes develop behavioral problems so people get rid of them and shelters fill up.
"Having them spayed or neutered will prevent some of those behavioral problems. But also, having them spayed or neutered prevents unwanted litters, unwanted animals," said Baker.
Baker said people have to fill out an application. You can get that application at Natalie's Second Chance, Pet Supplies Plus, or at Wildcat Valley Animal Clinic.
Baker said you can even call the clinic at 765-589-7297 and they will send you they application. To get the application online, click here .
Baker said the clinic will also be offering rides for people who may not be able to get to the clinic on their own.
