LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Democratic Congressman Joe Donnelly is courting Tippecanoe County voters in his campaign for a Senate seat this year.

The U.S. Representative made his first campaign stop in Lafayette Sunday afternoon, for a meet-and-greet at The Other Pub. About 25 people came out to meet Donnelly and discuss his campaign.

Donnelly said he wants to work on job creation here in Indiana, as well as making sure that America is energy-independent.

NewsChannel 18 asked the congressman what his response would be to constituents who say Congress isn't doing its job.

"Every day I go to work, and we work hard to create more opportunity," Donnelly responded. "We see that jobs are coming back. It's not perfect, but we see employment increasing. We're going to continue to work to see that there are more jobs coming back to our country."

Donnelly said another top priority is to lower spending and balance the U.S. budget.
