LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Seven women will be honored by the YWCA of Greater Lafayette next week.
The Salute to Women award winners are selected for outstanding achievements in their volunteer or professional roles, community involvement and leadership qualities.
The Woman of Innovation award is given annually to someone under 40 years old who is nevertheless serving as a great example of a positive role model.
This year's recipient is Jamie Proffitt.
With a couple of clicks, keeping a close eye to detail, it's obvious when you first meet her that she's a woman of innovation every day.
But on March 5, she will be will recognized as the Woman of Innovation during the YWCA 2013 Salute to Women banquet.
"I was definitely surprised, it's a great honor to be recognized in the Greater Lafayette community. It's a very high award," Proffitt said.
For six years, Proffitt has been the Marketing Manager for Unity Healthcare, overseeing the marketing budget and campaigns for about 85 physicians in 40 different practices. Whether it's web design, billboards or even commercials, she does it all.
"Oh I love my job, it's different every day, so you come into work every day and it's totally different," she said. "You can do ads one day, you can do marketing plans, meet with different doctors and know what they want to do for their initiatives."
With some large budgets and some small budgets, innovation is needed at every turn.
"You have to scale it back and really figure out what's the benefit, what are they going to gain, what's the return on their investment," she said.
Proffitt's investment and talents are on display for other worthy causes around the community from this year's Ultimate Pink design to the Summit for Survival.
She volunteers with Leadership Lafayette, the Ultimate Pink Party and serves as a board member for the area American Advertising Federation.
But thinking pink is a favorite.
"I love to be creative and think outside the box," Proffitt said. "To give to the community, because that's what it's all about, making our community a better place and definitely giving back where you can."
