Ivy Tech's Crawfordsville campus update

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Ivy Tech regional trustees got several pieces of good news Monday afternoon during their monthly board meeting.

The first is that the construction of the new building for the community college campus in Crawfordsville is on schedule.

Officials hope to offer the first classes in January.

Lafayette Chancellor David Bathe said the campus can reach up to 2,000 students between Brownsburg and the Illinois state line who live within 10 miles of Interstate 74.

"It's a strategic center," David Bathe, Ivy Tech Chancellor, said.  "It will help Indiana, it will help a broad area of the state and help us to increase in several counties' higher educational attainment."

Trustees were also informed that they will not need to find funding for the first two years of the interest-only loan which was used to purchase a mobile home park next to campus in anticipation of future expansion back in April.  That's because rent from the park will cover the costs of the loan.

Trustees also voted Tippecanoe School Corporation Superintendent Scott Hanback as the chair of the regional board for the next two years, replacing Kathy Vernon.
