WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Contestants in International Sports Club’s New Year’s resolution reality contest honor their resolutions.
Sunday afternoon, nutrition specialist, Dr. Dozie Onunkwo took the 20 contestants on a nutritional tour through Pay Less grocery store on Sagamore Parkway.
Dr. Dozie offered suggestions for foods that will help contestants achieve their weight loss goals, while reminding them of others that won’t work so well.
The tour identified foods that would give the resolution hopefuls the best sources of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats.
Dr. Dozie also brought to light marketing strategies that target aspiring dieters that may not be the healthiest options.
“One example is salad dressing. One thing they do is label it fat-free. And the common conception in society is fat-free equals healthy. So what they’ll do is instead of having the fat, is add high fructose corn syrup or other added sugars. That added sugar can contribute to your fat gain,” said Dr. Dozie.
The 10-week resolution competition is more than halfway over. Whoever loses the most weight will win a vacation for two.
