Hundreds compete in robotics competition

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Hundreds of elementary students competed in a robotics competition Saturday on Purdue's campus.
36 teams from around the state, including 21 from the Greater Lafayette area, competed in the event.
The robots are made out of Legos and students tested their skills in various head-to-head contests. All competitors received awards for their hard work.
Win or lose, Purdue FIRST Program representative Matthew Prall said these students are setting themselves up for success.
"It's a positive experience as well as stem education," said Prall. "It really promotes engineering technology in middle school, high school, or even college taking those types of classes and those types of careers."
Purdue FIRST programs are meant to encourage learning and community involvement through robotics.
