Hundreds come out despite heat for Ninth Street Hil Home Tour

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)- - Triple digit temperatures didn't stop hundreds of people from hiking up the Ninth Street hill Saturday for the Ninth Street Hill Home Tour. Eight homes were on this year's tour.

Homeowners said the extreme heat can't kill curiosity.

"How many times do you drive down a busy street and look and say, 'Gee, I wonder what's inside that house?" Ninth Street Hill Homeowner, Sandy Lahr, said.

Members of the association said the number of people who bought tickets exceeded expectations. But they made sure all precautions were met in the heat. Water stations were put up at several homes, and there were shuttles that could take tour participants from home to home. Also, the placement of this year's homes was to help reduce the walking.

"All of the homes are actually clustered," Homeowner, Janna Minjarez said. "So we're trying to make it a little easier for the participants  and guests to get in easily and out easily."

Over 800 bottles of water were bought for the event.

"We're prepared," Lahr said. "We've done everything. We have shuttles, [guests are able to] sit in homes, and hopefully that helps."
