LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - An area humane society used a March holiday this weekend to help more animals find a new family.
At Tippecanoe County’s Almost Home Humane Society, workers want a pinch of luck.
They are hoping the luck of the Irish will fall upon their adoptable animals.
Throughout the month of March, it is holding the "Get Lucky Adoption Special."
If someone adopts one of the animals marked with a four leaf clover, they get to visit the pot of gold.
“We have our own little pot of gold up in the front,” Almost Home Humane Society Executive Director Michelle Warren said. “If people come in and decide they want to adopt, they can draw a gold coin out of our pot of gold and on the back there is a different adoption special.”
A gold coin could get you up to 50 percent off your adoption fee.
Almost Home Humane Society Executive Director Michelle Warren says the lucky animals marked with a clover are some that have been at the shelter a long time. Some are staff favorites.
Warren says this month's special is part of a year of deals at the shelter to help give more animals forever homes.
“We've seen a huge increase in our adoptions this year,” Warren said. “We are already off to a record-breaking year in 2013. We think a lot of that can be attributed to some of the fun specials we do.”
Warren says, as of January 1, more than 295 animals have been adopted. It's up by 100 compared to this time last year.
Although Warren and her staff are excited about all the adoptions, Warren reminds people adopting a pet is a long commitment, and to think about it carefully.
“What are you going to have coming up in your life?” Warren said potential adopters should ask. “What if you move? Are you going to be able to take them with you? What if a baby comes into the house? What if you start living somewhere else with different people? Are the animals going to be welcome to come with you?”
Once the month deal ends, Warren says a new one will start in April. Right now it is not determined what the deal will be.
