Housing development project moves forward

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission voted to recommend a request to rezone a large piece of land in West Lafayette for a proposed housing development.

The project would have 266 units and cover 19 acres where Cumberland Avenue ends west of Sagamore Parkway.

Area Plan Commission Assistant Director Ryan O'Gara said the proposed plans show a variety of building types with anywhere from one to two bedrooms.

He said Cumberland Avenue will be expanded to the new 231 currently under construction. That new road will go hand and hand with this development.

"This is a part of an area of the community that is experiencing some growth. This residential expansion with this project is really keeping with what's around it," O'Gara said.

The rezoning proposal will move to the West Lafayette City Council. The council will vote on that Jan. 7.
