WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - As students and Boilermaker fans prepare for the homecoming weekend, emergency crews are gearing up to take on the crowds.
Thousands of alumni, fans and visitors cheering for Wisconsin and Purdue will not only pack the stadium this weekend but they'll start packing the town beginning tonight.
Purdue Police Chief John Cox said they'll have more than 90 officers working the game to keep the crowds under control.
Cox said they'll team up with other emergency agencies, including Indiana State Police, to monitor traffic and make sure everyone has a safe weekend.
"Fans should come early. Plan to come in early and park. We're asking that they approach from all the different directions. Obviously our heavier in-bounds are U.S. 52, Yeager and Northwestern and State street," Chief Cox said.
Chief Cox says there isn't anything major that will be different than any other home game for Saturday's game other than just a bigger crowd.
Kickoff for the homecoming game Saturday against Wisconsin is scheduled for noon.
