LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A Lafayette man will spend time in prison for leading police on a high-speed chase last October.
41-year-old Brian Keith Campbell was sentenced Tuesday.
According to Tippecanoe County Prosecutor Pat Harrington, Campbell will serve seven years in prison and five-and-a-half years on probation.
In October 2009, a Lafayette police officer tried to pull Campbell over for driving without his lights on.
Campbell sped away, taking police on a chase that lead from the northern part of Lafayette, up U-S 52 into West Lafayette, and down to River Road.
Harrington said when he was finally cornered by police at the Williamsburg apartments, Campbell dove into a retention pond near the river.
He has several prior convictions, including resisting law enforcement, theft, driving while suspended and habitual traffic violator.
Harrington said Campbell has lost his driver's license for life.
