LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - For just $99 and about 10 minutes of your time a heart scan could save your life.

Just one month ago, Larry Logsdon underwent triple bypass heart surgery. Before that, the Lafayette resident had no clue his heart was a ticking time bomb. Afterall, he was extremely active and had no signs of heart problems. However, at the urging of his wife, a heart attack survivor, the couple went to St. Elizabeth Central for a heart scans.

"It literally saved my life. Both my doctors say I would have been dead because I had no pain," Logsdon said.

"I said, 'Let's both get it done.' You know, it is a peace of mind thing so you can kind of see what is happening and it really turned out to be a godsend," Logsdon said.

Doctors used this 64 slice CT scanner on the Logsdons. It showed that one of Larry's arteries was 95 percent blocked.

"That detects plaque within the coronary arteries which is a predictor of their risk of overall coronary artery disease," Dr. Michael Busch said.

The scan itself took about 15 to 20 seconds but once it is complete, they have these detailed images of the patient's heart. A radiologist will then look at the images and determine if there is any plaque buildup.

"A radiologist will place that patient into low moderate or a high risk category for coronary artery disease and recommendations are based on that," Busch said.

Patients will receive a CD with the images, a report to discuss with their doctors and most importantly, peace of mind.

The heart scan is being offered at a discounted rate of $99 because the test is not covered by insurance. For more information or to schedule a call St. Elizabeth Central at (765) 423-6170.
