LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Registration is already underway for the second-annual Carry the Torch walk.

Hundreds of people have signed up to be a part of the event to support local cancer patients.

The walk is scheduled for 3 p.m. this Sunday at Riehle Plaza in Lafayette.

It's a 2-and-a-half-mile course.

All proceeds benefit Lafayette's Community Cancer Network, which provides non-medical support to patients and their families.

By the end of last year's event, walkers raised nearly $60,000.

Carry the Torch Chairwoman Faye Cole says she hopes this year will be as good as last year’s, and more.

"Last year the volunteers cried the whole time,” Cole said. “It will be the same this year, I expect. We've helped. It's local people helping local people. Our team is amazing."

After the walk participants can enjoy a celebration including free food and live music.

Head to the Community Cancer Network ’s website to register and/or donate.
