Yvonne Parkinson fulfilled her Habitat requirements and moved into a house at 1011 Queen Street in Lafayette in 2005. She got married in 2009 and, after moving into her husband's house, has been trying to donate the house back to the organization.

Parkinson said she had several choices, including selling the home, but none she felt comfortable with.

"My initial motivation in wanting to give it back to them was I did not feel right profiting off of the program and off of the labor," said Parkinson.

Habitat for Humanity Director of Operations Alan Welch told News Channel 18's Joe LePage the organization and the city have agreed to allow Parkinson to return the house back to the program.

The exact details of the agreement have not been released are not expected until the fourth week of November, 2010.

Parkinson said her charitable choice was originally met with anything but open arms.

"I feel like if I were not making payments I could see a perfect reason why someone would not want to communicate with me or cancel meetings,” said Parkinson. “They could have said, 'You are not making your payments. That is the way it is.'"

Stay tuned to News Channel 18 for the latest developments on the house at 1011 Queen Street in Lafayette.
