Grissom Army Reserve unit headed to Horn of Africa

INDIANAPOLIS (WLFI) - An Indiana Army Reserve unit is about to be deployed across the globe for Operation Enduring Freedom.

Soldiers from the U.S. Army Reserve’s 316th Psychological Operations Company at Grissom Air Reserve Base are scheduled to deploy to the Horn of Africa for 10 months.

Roughly 24 soldiers will be shipped out this week. A special departure ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Indianapolis International Airport.

This particular unit provides worldwide military information support operations (MISO) support to regular and special operations units, both in peace and war. The unit was activated in 2009 and is one of three Army Reserve units at Grissom, which is located just north of Kokomo, Ind.

Operation Enduring Freedom – Horn of Africa, or OEF-HOA, is the name of the military operation defined by the U.S. for fighting terrorism and piracy in the northeast Horn of Africa.
