Grab a burger, help a local veteran

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A "Tip-A-Soldier" event was held at Triple XXX and Route 66 Friday evening.
    
It was all part of an effort to collect donations to send World War II veterans to Washington D.C. During a "Tip-A-Soldier" event, Indiana Gold Star Mothers work with area restaurants to raise money for honor flights.
    
Back in April, nearly 90 veterans were part of the first honor flight from the area. Two more are scheduled for this year.

Indiana Gold Star Mother State President Pam Mow said the veterans will see the National World War II Memorial and other places like Arlington National Cemetery. She said the program is completely funded by donations from "Tip-A-Soldiers" events.

"We have raised thousands of dollars and every veteran costs $500 to take," said Mow.

Mow said there will be 166 veterans on the next two honor flights in September and October.
    
She said Friday night's event raised $1,100 that will go toward those flights.
