TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - There was some positive financial news for the Tippecanoe School Corporation Wednesday night.

At the school board meeting, Chief Financial Officer Kim Fox announced that the district netted about $2.5 million more revenue in the past year, because of funding formula changes as well as the addition of full-day kindergarten.

The corporation spent a $1.05 million more over last year, netting about $1.5 million for the rainy day fund.

There's more positive news for the future. The most recent student count for next year adds an additional 307 students for the district, which means more revenue in the future as well.

"We are in the process of re-evaluating our programs and looking at our ADM count and our facility usage and trying to project into 2013-2014 what our instructional programs are going to look like," Fox said. "So this gives us more resources."

There were also some new places and faces for the school board.

Jim Slaven was elected as the new board president, Randy Bond vice president, and Janet Fox Elmore secretary.

Newly elected member Brian DeFreese took his spot for the first time.

The board also selected Jane Smith to fill the empty seat left by the retired Alan Kemper. She's a former pharmacist who has three kids in elementary school and one in middle school.

She beat out eight other candidates.

"I was very flattered that I was chosen," Smith said. "I thought in the few minutes that I got to spend with the other candidates, they seemed like a very sharp group. So I'm kind of surprised, but flattered that I was chosen."

"All of them brought a lot of talents, we just felt like Jane stood out a bit above the rest," Slaven added. "When you look at a board you are hoping that the seven bring a variety of experiences so you can make the best of decisions for your kids."

DeFreese takes the spot of former president Kathy Dale who chose not to run for another term.
