Gold Star Mothers asking for help with special holiday project to honor local veterans

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Lafayette chapter of the Gold Star Mothers are asking for your help with a special holiday project to honor Indiana veterans.

In 2011, the Gold Star Mothers teamed up with Wreaths Across America to place wreaths at the headstones of every veteran at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. This year, they are working to raise money for wreaths to place at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette.

A wreath is $15 and for every two bought, Gold Star Mother Dana Vann said they get the third one free. There are 2800 headstones at the Indiana Veterans home and Vann said they have about 1/3 of the wreaths needed. They are asking for the public's help to make sure no headstone is without a wreath.

Gold Star Mothers are moms who've lost a son or daughter while he or she was serving our country. Gold Star Mother Pam Mow said by doing service projects, it allows a parent like herself to avoid focusing on her son's death but instead honoring their sacrifice by serving others.
