Go inside the dog breeding business ruled as public hazard

CLARKS HILL, Ind. (WLFI) - A southern Indiana Border Collie breeder reaches out to News 18 after the Tippecanoe County Health Department and sheriff's deputies were denied access to a Clarks Hill dog breeding business.

"It was very appalling. Even when we were outside, the smell was horrendous and then there were multiple dogs together with feces and urine scattered throughout the area," said an anonymous dog breeder from southern Indiana.

The anonymous breeder provided News 18 with videos and photos of Sanders Border Collies. The breeder was on the property in August. He described the scene of the business operated by Randy Sanders, as "heart breaking."

"This is the probably the most devastating situation with animals that I have ever seen with dogs. Quite honestly, it has haunted me. I have laid awake at night and have woken in the middle of the night and have thought about the dogs," said the breeder.

Last month, inspectors from the Tippecanoe County Health Department inspected the Clarks Hill breeding operation. The department found the business was unsanitary and presented several risks to people who enter the barn.

"You just can't imagine. You just can't imagine the devastation that these dogs are in," said the breeder.

News 18 tried contacting owner Randy Sanders again Friday. Our phone calls have not yet been returned.

Tippecanoe County Health Department attorney Randy Vonderheide said the next step for the health department will be considering going to court to obtain an order for further inspection.
