INDIANA (WLFI) - Indiana Blood Center is partnering up with Girl Scouts of Central Indiana to bring everyone’s favorites into the mix when giving blood this Friday.
In the “Thin Mints for a Cause” blood drives on Friday, everyone who participates will get a box of Thin Mint cookies (while supplies last) in honor of the first-ever National Girl Scout Cookie Day. According to Indiana Blood Center, Thin Mints consistently rank in the top three cookies sold in the nation.
Each of Indiana Blood Center’s nine donor centers around the state – including Lafayette’s at 2200 Elmwood Avenue, Suite D-16 – will be open for “Thin Mints with a Cause” blood drives from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. The event will celebrate the largest girl-led business in the world.
“I’d venture a guess that few non-profits are as synonymous with cookies as the Girl Scouts and Indiana Blood Center. We are known for the cookies we offer after blood donation and the Girl Scouts for their annual cookie sales,” Indiana Blood Center Director of Marketing Shannon Jordan said. “Coming together helps mark the first National Girl Scout Cookie Day while offering our donors a much-deserved thanks for saving a life through blood donation.”
Indiana Blood Center must see at least 620 donors every day in order to meet the demand of the more than 60 hospitals that need blood throughout Indiana.
“The need for blood is all around us, from lifesaving surgeries to treating cancer, and many of the recipients may be Girl Scouts and their families,” Girl Scouts of Central Indiana CEO Deborah Hearn Smith said. “Teaming up with Indiana Blood Center is a natural partnership to help motivate donations as community service is a cornerstone of Girl Scouts.”
Appointments are encouraged as openings to donate can fill up quickly. To schedule an appointment for a “Thin Mints for a Cause” blood drive, head to Indiana Blood Center’s website.
