Fraternities placed on probation for serving drinks to minors

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Two Purdue fraternities now sit on probation due to offenses related to alcohol.

According to associate dean of students Jeff Stefancic, Kappa Sigma will be on probation until Sept. 20 and Theta Chi will be on probation until Dec. 14.

The punishments originate from an October 2012 off-campus Kappa Sigma event and an on-campus, but unregistered, Theta Chi event the same month in which the fraternites were found to have made alcohol available to minors.

"The University and Interfraternity Council policies are very clear, and there are consequences when we find they are violated," Stefancic said. "These fraternities will be given a chance to overcome these events, and we will work with them in moving forward in a positive direction."

To return to good standing the fraternities are not allowed to serve alcohol at any functions during the probation period. Members of the fraternities must complete alcohol education programs and other University-assigned educational sanctions.
