FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) - A Frankfort man fended off a man trying to break into his and his neighbor's apartments Sunday afternoon. He was left with lacerations on his legs from a knife the man was carrying.
"Basically this on my knee is a knife cut," The victim, Matthew Speedling, said. "I have a knife cut on the side of my foot, and I got some skin cut off my toe."
Frankfort police said the incident happened at a Frankfort apartment complex near North Main and West Morrison Streets. Speedling said the man at the door said he was looking for someone who ripped him off during a drug deal. When Speedling said he didn't know what the man was talking about, the man pulled a knife on Speedling, and tried to enter his apartment.
"He put the knife up to my throat, and I grabbed him by his shirt," Speedling said. "I picked him up, and I slammed him to the ground. As I went down to the ground, he cut me. Then, he ran out and tried to go to the next door neighbor's house."
The fight continued down the stairs and onto the sidewalk. Then, it continued all the way to West Morrison Street. That is when Speedling said a female accomplice joined in on the fight, before she and the man fled. Police continue to look for the man and the woman he was with.
"I described the guy as having facial hair, and size-16 gauges," Speedling said. "He is about 28 to 32 years old. He had brown hair and was wearing a black baseball cap."
Police said they need Speedling to come to the police department for more interviews.
"He was kind of distraught at the time," Frankfort Police Captain James R. Skinner said. "We thought once he was released from the hospital, and came here, he'd be more calm and we would get a better story from him."
Speedling says he just wants the man caught.
"[He needs to go] to jail and do his time for cutting me, and for trying to break into my place and the neighbor's," Speedling said. "Somebody like that really doesn't need to be around."
Speedling said he plans to talk to police on Tuesday.
