FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) - A Frankfort police officer is recognized state-wide for going above and beyond the normal call of duty.
Officer Joshua Danner was awarded 'Officer of the Year' by the Indiana Disabled American Veterans Association on June 9, 2012.
Officer Danner said the day he was notified he was selected as 'Officer of the Year' is a day he'll never forget.
"It is nice to get recognition for some of the great things we do for the community and the people inside," Frankfort police officer, Joshua Danner said.
Officer Danner received the award after he saved an 84-year-old Frankfort woman and her dog from a home engulfed in flames in March of 2011.
"I didn't do anything else that none of the 28 officers that are here wouldn't have done," Officer Danner said. "I was just the first one there and reacted on instinct and the training I was provided through the department."
The Frankfort officer said working in law enforcement, he typically deals with more bad than good. But he said being honored for his work by the Indiana Disabled American Veterans Association is an honor in itself.
"Disabled veterans are just very distinguished men and women who have served not only our country but have done several other things as well," officer Danner said.
Officer Danner said it's a great honor, not only for himself, but for the entire Frankfort Police Department and all those who serve in law enforcement.
"I accepted the award on behalf of every law enforcement officer, not only in the state of Indiana but around the nation. We could all be 'Officer of the Year' just for what we do on a daily basis," officer Danner said.
Danner has been an officer with the Frankfort Police Department for 6 years.
He accepted the award on June 9.
His father, Jeff Danner, who is a retired Frankfort Police Officer, Captain James Skinner and various friends and family members were with Officer Danner when he accepted his award.
