Ballot bid denied

Fountain County Election Board denies candidacy

COVINGTON, Ind. (WLFI) - There will be one less person on the ballot in Fountain County when election day in November rolls around after a special meeting.

Sherri VanHook left the Fountain County Courthouse furious. VanHook wanted to run on the Democratic ticket for County Commissioner District 3.

Her ballot bid was denied two votes to one by the election board. Members of the board say missed deadlines are the reason why VanHook will not be on the ticket.

"She had several options to get on the ballot and they did not do any of those,” said Chairman of the Election Board Dudley Cruea.

VanHook declined on camera comment, but she told the election board errors made by the board, specifically Circuit Court Clerk Patty Gritten cost her a run in November.

The last thing Sherri VanHook said before getting up from the table, waking down the steps and out the doors of the Fountain County Courthouse, "You'll be hearing from me."

Circuit Court Clerk Patty Gritten says she would not be surprised if VanHook hires a lawyer and sues the election board for the right to be on the November ballot.
