COVINGTON, Ind. (WLFI) - Indiana State Police have arrested a former superintendent of the Covington School District on criminal charges.
47-year-old Nathan Evans was arrested after turning himself in at the Fountain County Jail on Friday. State Police Sergeant Brian Olehy said Evans faces 17 criminal charges, including two felony counts of Forgery, 14 felony counts of Theft, and a felony count of Perjury.
Olehy said police began investigating Evans in February after a routine audit of the school district's accounts turned up discrepencies.
"Investigations like this take a long time to complete because of their complexity and the large amount of documents to reconcile and review," Detective Tom Minnicus said.
Evans was released from the Fountain County Jail after posting bond. An initial court appearance has been set for December 15 in the Fountain Circuit Court.
