Rolled-over car on I-65 sends 2 to hospital

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Indiana State Police (ISP) says two people are recovering after a car left the southbound I-65 roadway and rolled over on the median.

ISP says just after 11:15 a.m. Thursday, a car was headed south in the left-hand passing lane a couple of miles south of the State Road 38/25 exit at mile marker 166.

The driver of the car, 23-year-old Leslie Urban of Baltimore, said she was trying to get back into the right lane when she noticed a vehicle already there.

Urban said she turned the wheel left and ran off the roadway on the inside shoulder, then overcorrected and the car rolled on its side and came to rest in the middle of the highway.

Urban and her younger sister sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Franciscan St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.

Investigators say seatbelts were in use, which probably helped keep the two women from getting severely injured.

However, the car they were driving was destroyed.

The interstate was shut down roughly 15 minutes as was down to one lane for about 45 minutes for transportation of the injured and cleanup.
