First day of early voting in Tippecanoe County going smoothly

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - It’s the first day to vote early and the last day to register to vote, and the Tippecanoe County Board of Elections says it’s the perfect time to do both.

Board of Elections Co-Director Jared Bond says between 8 and 10 a.m. Tuesday, just 50 people cast ballots. By 11:45 a.m. that number had gone up to 91 voters total, and as of 3 p.m. 151 voters had cast ballots.

Bond says the four voting machines at the early voting location (the Board of Elections Office) is making wait times minimal.

“I don’t think anyone has waited more than 3 to 5 minutes to cast a ballot,” Bond said.

Voters should bring a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license, Indiana ID card, U.S. passport or military ID.

Tuesday is also the last day to register to vote. You can register either at the Board of Elections Office (20 N. Third St. in Lafayette) or online at Indiana’s voter registration website.
