LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - An apartment fire leads to the evacuation of an entire building Tuesday evening.

It happened at Georgetown South Apartments on Shoshone Drive in Lafayette around 8 p.m.

Firefighters said the fire may have started in the hallway near the furnace of a third floor apartment.

Once crews arrived, they had the fire extinguished within five minutes and kept it from spreading to other apartments. The entire building was evacuated.

A Lafayette police officer did have some smoke inhalation but was treated with some oxygen at the scene.

The fire remains under investigation.
