Fire in home "suspicious"

ATTICA, Ind. (WLFI) - A fire caused substantial damage to a home in Attica and is deemed suspicious by firefighters.

The fire started around 7:00 p.m. Monday at a vacant house on County Road E. 1400 North.

Firefighters said the previous resident moved out a while ago to stay in a nursing home, but Attica Fire Chief Ed O'Farrell said there was still stuff inside, piled to the ceiling, with no foot paths.  Because of all that debris, the health department said it was unsafe for crews to go in the house.

The health department was also in the process of getting the home condemned.

O'Farrell said the fire is suspicious in nature and the cause remains under investigation.
