Federal warrants served in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Federal agents were in Montgomery County Wednesday. They served at least 5 warrants, with the help of local law enforcement.

Montgomery County Sheriff Mark Casteel said the warrants are a part of sealed federal indictments.

"We found out late last week there was an ongoing investigation, and they were going to come to Montgomery County to execute the warrants," Casteel said. "They were asking for our assistance, and we, of course, offered any assistance needed."

Casteel said the FBI, IRS and Immigration and Custom Enforcement started serving the warrants around 9 a.m.

Casteel said his deputies and Crawfordsville police officers were on hand.

"We were there for assistance, to assist them with the entries, and with any arrests that were going to be made," Casteel said. "When that was done, most of the Crawfordsville police officers, and sheriff's deputies, left."

Casteel would not reveal the addresses where officers served the warrants, but said at least two were to homes in Crawfordsville.

Casteel adds, he appreciates the federal agents asking for the county's assistance. He said it's good for the overall safety of the county.

"It worked out very well," Casteel said. "They called us, and made us aware it was going on, and that cooperation is great when it comes to public safety as well."

Casteel said no officers were hurt while serving the warrants.
