FOUNTAIN COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A fatal crash in Fountain County happened around 7:00 PM Wednesday evening about two miles north of Covington.

Officers say a tractor and car collided in the 3100 block of West County Road 260 North.

A car carrying five teenagers was driving east and impacted the tractor traveling west.

Officers said as the car went over a hill, the driver saw the tractor coming and slammed on his brakes.

The car hit the disc harrow of the tractor and then hit the tractor's left, rear tire causing the  car to spin out of control.

16-year-old Laine M. Kovacic of Kingman, who was driving the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of his passengers was taken to the hospital. Three other teenagers in the car refused treatment. The driver of the tractor was taken to the hospital with complaints of pain.

Investigators believe speed was a factor in the wreck.
