Fall fun at Exploration Acres

Corn maze is only the beginning

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - What was once a family farm, has now become a favorite fall outing for many around Tippecanoe County. In its fourth season, Exploration Acres has made a name for itself as the home of the area's largest corn maze.

"The primary business is the corn maze. It's an 18-acre maze. We've got five themed mazes that make up one larger maze," said Tim Fitzgerald, President of Exploration Acres.

Thousands travel to Exploration Acres from across the state. Jim Hanna took the journey from Rossville with his family Sunday. He said they were just looking for something unique to do this fall.

"We came out just to find something different to do with the kids on the weekend. It's been kind of gloomy here lately, and with the weather being as beautiful as it is today, we thought we'd head out to the pumpkin patch," said Hanna.

Fitzgerald said it's people like the Hanna family that make up their main clientele. And in a tough economy, he feels Exploration Acres offers affordable fun.

"People are trying to stay a little closer to home, especially the local people. They want something that's value-priced. And we have really intentionally tried to keep our prices reasonable," said Fitzgerald.

For Myles Hanna though, today was all about the fun, fall-related activities offered at Exploration Acres.

"It's real fun and inspiring," said Myles Hanna,"Because it just lets you get outside, and do stuff that you sometimes, pretty much, don't get to do."

Exploration Acres is open until the end of the month. A gem mine was also recently opened on the property and joins the duck races and corn shoot.
